Gambling addiction is a serious problem that affects many people regardless of age, gender or social class. Initially it may seem like an innocent activity, a form of recreation, but for some people it can develop into uncontrollable behaviour with devastating consequences.
It is characterized by a strong desire to gamble, to bet, even when this causes serious problems for the individual’s personal social and professional life. Usually these individuals face financial problems, difficulties in their relationships with constant tensions and their mental health is negatively affected with pervasive anxiety, generalized anger and depression.
Recognition of the problem is the first step to treatment. At our Centre we address the problem of gambling addiction with group and individual psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy focused on behaviour modification, education and awareness, relapse prevention and strategies to avoid dangerous situations for relapse.
It is important to recognize the addiction and seek help. With the right support, we can overcome difficulties and regain control of our lives. We are not alone in this battle, there is always hope and a solution.
